Leonard Apartments

The site for Leonard Apartments is conveniently located on the bustling Northwest side of Grand Rapids. The 55-unit senior living community is a partnership project with the Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids and the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. It will feature Grand Rapids Housing Commission and Wyoming Housing Commission project-based vouchers. These vouchers will ensure affordability for the area’s senior population. Construction on the project will begin in 2024 with leasing expected in late 2025.

Once open, the Leonard Apartments will feature forty-eight one-bedroom apartments and seven two-bedroom apartments, all of which will be accessible, with eight able to accommodate wheelchair users. There will be a 1,100-square-foot community room, a smaller meeting room, property management office and thirty-six parking spaces. Outdoor spaces include a lower-level courtyard and two rooftop decks on the south side of the building, connected by a bridge. These spaces will be especially nice when the sun is out and serve as inviting communal living areas. Landscaping will include trees and plantings found naturally in west Michigan to enhance overall wellbeing.

In addition to meeting Enterprise Green Community Standards, and offering nicely appointed apartments and community spaces, Genesis plans to expand their current partnership with Grand Valley State University to host Nurse interns at Leonard Apartments. These students gain clinical experience for their nursing degree and offer a valuable resource on-site to help residents with questions about health.
